I am an African

Posted by Jiten Magan on Friday, February 11, 2011, In : Preparations

Last week I had a very cool meeting with Lenina Rassool. A free-lance journalist and lucky for us, a very nice person. She has agreed not only to help us with our newspaper and magazine articles but also with some of our marketing. We’ll have another meeting soon to discuss our integration into the print media field.

Last week I also had the chance to speak to Fanie de Villiers, the former legendary South African fast bowler. Fanie’s daughter is deaf and had a cochlear implant operation, ...

T-shirts Anyone... ????

Posted by Jiten Magan on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, In : Preparations

We have a t-shirt available for anyone who is interested. Please note that these are sample t-shirts and there may be minor changes. Initially they will only be available in Cape Town until we sort out posting, but please still indicate interest as this will allow us to see if posting is financially feasible.

The price is not yet finalised and depends on quantity and whether t-shirts are sponsorsed. We suspect that the price will be between R120 to R180. Please let us know if you are int...

A new year, a new look

Posted by Ria Moothilal on Friday, January 21, 2011, In : Preparations

Hi guys

Just a quick blog for today. We're launching our new look site today. We've made some aesthetical and functional changes which we are sure you will appreciate. One of the new additions is a google map which will enable you to follow us. Although not real time, the map will enable you to get a fairly accurate idea of where we are on our trip. Mobile telecomms has come a long way in Africa, so we will regularly send sms updates to a contact in SA who will update the map whenever we cant....

Posted by Ria Moothilal on Thursday, December 23, 2010, In : Preparations

Season’s greetings to you all

It would be a shame to end of 2010 with one last blog. It’s been a mammoth year for all of us in South Africa, a bit more partying than usual thanks to the world cup, and now the end of 2010 is just a week away.

Ticking the checklist
It’s also been a big year for team SiyaShova. From what started out as an idea of having adventure turned out into become a full blown project. Countless hours spent on ticking things of the checklist, which among others include...

In the workshop – At the moment our bike builds are fully underway. It shouldn’t be long before Imraan takes his out for its first test ride. Over the past few weeks we’ve placing various orders for bike parts and accessories. One of the fun aspects of this has got to be when they arrive – having a courier come by with a box full of “toys” makes one feel like a kid again – it’s exciting, I love ...

SiyaShova at the AmaShova

Posted by Ria Moothilal on Monday, October 25, 2010, In : Preparations

Being from KZN and having spent much time in both Pietermaritzburg and Durban, the AmaShova cycle race is something that I've wanted to do for a very long time. As luck would it have it, this year I happened to be in Durban the weekend of the race - this was pure chance as I working in Durban on the Monday. However, I'd only realised the race was that weekend after I had left Cape Town - so I was really unprepared - no training, cycling gear, helmet... oh and no bicycle!!!!!

5 days to go...

A screw in here, a screw out there

Posted by Ria Moothilal on Friday, October 8, 2010, In : Preparations

Goodday avid followers of the SiyaShova blog

The last few days we have been quite quiet on the blog front as most of our work is still organizational in nature. There are a few big things in the pipeline, but unfortunately we will only be able to post this once big news is finalized. In the meantime you get to read about my mishaps with my rear derailleur.

A few weeks ago in my blog, I posted a picture of my bent rear derailleur and it held up surprisingly well for the last few weeks. The s...

JT's first blog post!

Posted by Jiten Magan on Monday, August 30, 2010, In : Preparations

Hey guys, this is my 1st entry and my introduction to the blogosphere. Most of the work that we are doing now is communicative and not very interesting from an observer’s perspective. I thought, therefore, that a quick introduction to my training in Cayman might serve as my 1st blog.

Cayman is in the Caribbean and therefore the tropical summer heat is probably good training for the heat we will be experiencing along the C2C (Cape to Cairo) route. It averages at 30C (often hitting 35C) with...

Howzit

Two months since the first post and the project is coming along. We've had our first meeting with the people from HearUs. They're thrilled to have us on board and we're looking forward to helping them make a difference.
Gear wise - we've found a local bike builder in Bellville who'll be building our bikes. We'll most likely start with the first bike next week. Our plan is to have the frames (steel touring style) built here, and import the rest of the components from the UK - believe ...
